Otis Johnson Park Trail Map

Otis R. Johnson Wilderness Park is located at the east end of Laurel Street, directly southeast of Fort Bragg Middle School. This 7-acre park offers shady walking trails and a close-up experience with nature. From May 1st through October 31st the park is open from 7 AM and closes at 8 PM and from November 1st through April 30th from 7 AM to 5 PM.

Aquatic Restoration & Re-Vegetation

The park is in the midst of a comprehensive aquatic restoration and re-vegetation program funded through California River Parkways, CalTrans, and the local Salmon Restoration Association. The goal is to restore ecological integrity to wilderness areas and expand visitor facilities. The park has been invaded over the years by exotic plants from around the world that escaped neighborhood gardens. Two trailside retaining walls will be rehabilitated in 2011.

The lower trail stream crossing, which was a wooden footbridge back in the day, collapsed due to a windfall and will be upgraded in summer 2011. The upper trail stream crossing will have a similar wooden bridge installed this summer as well. Areas with significant erosion are being rehabilitated through creative bioengineering methods that utilize native materials. Extensive weeding has involved labor provided by the Parlin Forks Conservation Camp and disposal courtesy of Waste Management.
