Jary Stavely was appointed to the Planning Commission by Tess Albin-Smith in December of 2022. He has lived on the Mendocino Coast for 50 years, and moved to Fort Bragg in1998. He was an elementary teacher for 37 years in the Mendocino Schools before retiring in 2009. He has sung in local musical productions (and loves Cotton Auditorium). He serves on the Board of the League of Women Voters, and for several years he assisted his late wife Patricia Marien conduct the Silent Auction and Raffle at the Abalone Festival on South Harbor Dr. He has three children and five grandchildren.

Duties & Responsibilities

The commission reviews land use and development permits (use permits, coastal development permits, design review permits, subdivisions, etc.) for consistency with the goals and policies of the Fort Bragg General Plan, and the development standards of the Fort Bragg Municipal Code. All Planning Commission decisions may be appealed to the City Council. The Planning Commission provides recommendations to the City Council on General Plan amendments and rezoning requests, and provides direction to the Community Development Department regarding the interpretation of city planning policies and codes.
